Rev. Lana E. Russell, Associate Pastor for Adult Ministries
Rev. Lana E. Russell was born in Midland, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas – Permian Basin in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Lana sensed the call to full time ministry over thirty five years ago. She lived into that call in varying capacities in her church and community. She served as a deacon and Stephen Ministry Leader at First Presbyterian Church, Midland and was involved in mission committee work with the Tres Rios Presbytery. Lana spent many years on the board of the Midland Association of Churches helping organize and lead educational opportunities and co-chaired a racial reconciliation event for two years. She was a founding board member of Midland Fairhavens, a transitional housing ministry. She also served as executive director for the Midland affiliate of Habitat for Humanity from 1995-1998. For several years, Lana commuted 280 miles to take courses at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. When her children graduated from high school, she continued the journey toward formal fulfillment of her call by enrolling at Princeton Theological Seminary, receiving both her Master of Divinity in 2003 and Master of Theology in 2004.
As part of her preparation for ministry, Lana served as an intern at Noroton Presbyterian Church, Darien, Connecticut; the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, Toms River, New Jersey; and at the Presbyterian Church of West Trenton, Trenton, New Jersey. She also completed a ten-week Clinical Pastoral Education program at New York Presbyterian – Columbia Hospital. Lana wrote a worship liturgy, "Taking Leave" which was published in Healing Liturgies for the Seasons of Life by Abigail Rian Evans.
While at Princeton, Lana received the Charles H. Jagow Preaching Prize in 2002 and the Charles H. Jagow Prize in Homiletics and Speech in 2003. She accepted the call to Kirk in the Hills in the summer of 2004 and was ordained and installed on October 10, 2004 to Minister of Word and Sacrament. She supports the Adult Ministry programs at the Kirk, providing opportunities for growth and development of faith through Christian education, pastoral care and small group ministry.
Alongside her pastoral work, Lana is mother to two children. Lana’s daughter, Emily Berry is married to Brian Berry and they live and work as attorneys in San Francisco. Her son, Russell Booth has master’s degrees in accounting and law and works in Dallas, Texas. Her ongoing delight comes from serving God and spending time with her family and friends.
