Elementary Sunday School (grades 1-5)

What: The Journeys program is an exciting educational program for grades 1-5, featuring five different rotational workshops each week (each grade attends a different workshop). Each "rotation" begins with lessons taught in the St. Andrew's service, exploring a common theme from various aspects of the Bible, but through a variety of workshop methods such as film (Seaside Cinema), art projects (God's Garden), outreach (Temple Treasures), games (Disciple's Desert) and drama (Paradise Playhouse). There's something for every child's interest and learning style! When elementary students arrive each Sunday, they check the large Journeys board to see which workshop their grade will attend that day - the rotating schedule keeps it fresh for both the students and our inspired teachers that volunteer their time to be part of this creative program.

When: Journeys classes are held during the 9:00 services (St. Andrew's service in the Refectory or the Sanctuary service). A combined class for grades K-5 is held in God's Garden (go to Abbey 19 for sign-in) during the 11:00 a.m. Sancutary service.

Where: Registration and weekly sign-in with the Journeys "Shepherds" is located at the large table on the first floor of the Abbey. Students check in with their parents and receive a color-coded nametag corresponding to the Journeys workshop for their grade that week. Parents also receive a numbered "claim tag" as a security measure when picking up their child after class. Students then attend the first part of worship with their families, until they are dismissed with a "Shepherd" that will lead them by grade to the appropriate workshop.
