Camp Hosanna 2010 - Volunteer Now!

2009 Camp Hosanna!Camp Hosanna provides academic enrichment by offering hands-on, fun and engaging activities that promote literacy, critical thinking and mastery of academic building blocks while infusing the gospel witness of Jesus Christ. It is a three-week summer program for 60 children entering grades 2-6 in the fall of 2010. This effort is presented through a partnership of leadership and funding by Kirk in the Hills, First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, and New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. This year's camp will be held Monday-Thursday, July 12-29 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with special events on Fridays (July 16 and July 23).

Volunteers are needed, including greeters, teacher assistants, and lunch helpers. Please contact Glenda Herb at glherb@comcast.net. She can help you find your perfect niche among the many volunteer opportunities that are available.

For general questions about Camp Hosanna, please feel free to contact Barbara Littleton at mom@lonesomegeorge.com.

There are other ways that you can help!

If you are unable to volunteer your time this summer, please consider making a donation to
help make it possible for a child to attend Camp Hosanna. The cost of providing one day of Camp Hosanna 2010 for one child is $35.42. Every gift of any amount will help to provide this very much needed opportunity for the children. Checks may be made payable to Kirk in the Hills – Camp Hosanna and can be sent directly to the Kirk office.

The Camp Hosanna Library is an important asset and a popular feature of Camp Hosanna. During the three weeks of camp, children check books in and out daily to supplement lessons of the day and to accomplish nightly reading assignments. At the end of the three weeks, each camper fills a bag with 10-15 books to take home for his or her very own. Teachers and volunteers help campers select titles that will be enjoyable as well as challenging. Trips to the library are happy and high
energy times for the campers. For some children, the delight of picking books to own is a new experience. The library is made possible through the generosity of members and friends from each of the sponsoring churches. Camp Hosanna 2010 needs about 700 new or gently used books, reading levels grades 1-7. Books for boys and books with characters representing different nationalities and ethnicities are especially in demand. The Camp Hosanna Committee hopes that many members will take a moment to gather a book or two to donate, either from one’s own collection, or by buying something new. Books may be dropped at the Kirk (place them in a bag marked "Camp Hosanna" next to the mission hampers) during regular weekday business hours or on Sundays.
