On April 12, the Kirk hosted an Interfaith Prayer Service for Ukraine on Holy Monday, bringing together various faith, civic, and community leaders for one purpose: to pray for God's people in Ukraine and to raise funds to save lives. It was an extremely moving and powerful event. The group pictured above are those who offered up prayers, gave Ukranian medical need updates or gave us the gift of song.

April 7 and 21, a Thursday Kirk Kitchen Crew made dinner for 50 Accent Pontiac students to support them and the after- school lessons and tutoring they attend. Accent Pontiac coordinates this for the students all five days of the school week throughout the school year and the Kirk is among many churches, organizations and businesses helping to feed these hard- working students. A HUGE thank you to all who brought items for our Kirk Lighthouse Lenten Collection! We were able to provide much needed supplies to Lighthouse who in turn serves the greater local community by making food and other necessities available for free. These items can be picked up at the Pontiac Lighthouse headquarters on Woodward or delivered to people without transportation through their mycovidresponse.com website.
On April 24, the Kirk continued the Easter celebration with Pastor Edwin's Installation Ceremony and Reception at a special 10:00 a.m. service. We are so fortunate to have Pastor Edwin and his dynamic charismatic energy and enormous love for God here at the Kirk! It was another joyous event to celebrate!
Easter Sunday, the Kirk celebrates our Risen Lord !! We started the day off at an early morning Colubarium Service honoring all those who have passed away throughout the year joining our Father in Heaven. Their names were read and many family members and friends were in attendance. Then between the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services we had a grand Easter celebration with specialty coffee from the Cappaccino Cart on the front porch, a petting zoo on the front lawn and a good ole' fashion Easter Egg Hunt for all the kids! A great time was had by all!!
In the Lenten Art Exhibition, our artists explored and expressed what “home” means to them as we journeyed through Lent and Easter. The theme also lends itself to raising up awareness surrounding the social issue of homelessness. Above is a video that features all of the many amazing art pieces! Middle school youth group spent time this month in prayer stations to help them focus on the season of Lent.
The high school youth group traveled up north for their annual retreat this past weekend, and the weather cooperated wonderfully! We spent time on the river and in the woods bonding and growing in our faith.
This past Sunday the Confirmation class met with their families, mentors, and elders to share their faith statements and projects. The students created amazing work and it was moving to hear parts of their stories. 15 youth were welcomed as new members of the church! We are looking forward to celebrating with the congregation on May 8th.
Our children and family washed each other’s feet on Palm Sunday just as Jesus did for His disciples. Showing the humility expressed by His act with towel and basin foreshadowing His ultimate act of humility and love on the cross. When we truly love someone, we take care of them. We allow ourselves to become vulnerable for them. We deepen our connection with them.
