July Monthly Minute

July 31, 2022

The weeks of July 17th and 24th, the Kirk sent Kirk Tutor kids and Foster Care kids to Camp Skyline in Almont, MI. Camping fees, supplies and transportation was all provided through these two Kirk ministry funds. It's truly an amazing opportunity for these children to get away and enjoy a week in a cabin meeting other kids, herding goats, fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, learning archery, doing crafts, making s'mores by the fire before star gazing without city lights and the most look- forward to activity: swimming in the pool! Next year, we hope some Kirk families might consider sending their kids the same week in July that our Kirk Tutor kids go to build relationships with these kids that they will likely see again here at the Kirk. To get your name on the list for more info, please contact Julie Walker at j .

Sunday July 24, Lila and Randy Pappal hosted our Kirk Social at their house! It was a lovely event for our Kirk family members to get to know each other better and enjoy a beautiful charcuterie spread of appetizers! Our next Kirk Social is August 20 at the Detroit City FC soccer game. Here is the link to sign up!

Wednesday, July 27, our Kirk Outreach and Mission team hosted a Cohort- Seed Funding Luncheon. Ten innovative and collaborative community projects were funded from a large number of applications submitted as a result of our 2021 Kirk Mission Conference held last October 2021. All of the receiving recipients were required to attend cohort training over the past 4 months in hopes to promote greater collaboration and achieve greater success in both the project and within their organizations. Between the seed funding amounts awarded and the cohort training fees paid, the total amount given was very close to $60,000. The contributing sponsors to this initiative were:
Pontiac Community Foundation, OLHSA, Rahma Worldwide, and Kirk in the Hills. The 2021 Pontiac Collaborators Mission Conference recipients were: 1. The Dream Center: Ellie Schupra. 2. Reciprocity: Cam Underwood & Chris Powers. 3. Kensington Community Church: Linda Leinius 4. Oakland Literacy: Lisa Machesky & Amanda Powe. 5. Kids Empowered on the Move: Kimber Yanke Bishop. 6. Hope Against Trafficking: Hannah McPeak. 7. 180 Church: Pastor Lorenzo Sewell. 8. Oakland University Pontiac Iniative Early Childhood Education: Coco Moulder. 9. Center for Success: Andrea Meyer 10.
