Monday Minute 10.18.21

October 18, 2021

Sunday morning after the 9:00 a.m. service we had a Second Serving of good news and lots of delicious pancakes and sausage made by our own special Kirk team of ladies! Emma Tracey explained how a few young Pastors graduated from college and decided to move into Pontiac to minister to their community neighbors. They started community gardens, hold worship services in the backyard of the house they started in, tutor kids, offer summer programing and now own an elementary school across the street in which they are working to turn into a community center with local resources and adult & children's programming. After the presentation, 20+ Kirk kids worked together to make a meal for the Micah 6 staff and neighbors! We will be holding these outreach activities on the 3rd Sunday of every month for children and families! Please join us next month, November 21, after the 9 a.m. service to enjoy some special Scottish treats to celebrate our Kirk Anniversary and take part in a special outreach activity.

The Kirk took the pasta salads, jello salad and pudding made together by over 20 Kirk kids at our Second Serving activity Sunday and provided the food to 40 local Pontiac residents after a Micah 6 service held outdoors. We participate in this serving activity on the 3rd Sunday of every month at Micah 6. If interested in signing up for this please do so here.

This Sunday we heard Pastor Nate preach on The Failures and had 4 children baptized! If you missed Pastor Nates sermon, click the button below.

This Sunday’s worship included members of The Junior Girls’ Choir, joined by new Kirk member and choir mom Carol Beth Litkouhi on the flute!

The Confirmation class spent the weekend at an @home retreat. We spent time bonding as a group, learning about church history, getting more familiar with the Kirk itself and the class got to meet and start bonding with their mentors. What a great start to their year together!

This past Wednesday was the Congregational Care and Caring Friends lunch! If you have time to call someone once a week, then you could become a caring friend and brighten someone’s day just by letting them know you care.
This past Sunday we took the time to highlight the importance of worship at Kirk in the Hills. Worship provides an intentional space for every heart to experience God’s transforming love- both through music and the preaching of the Word. Each year, annual dollars go to help support the incredible pastoral team and staff that help to lead our weekly worship experience. As a part of the Anniversary Campaign we will provide a seed investment to establish a new endowment fund to help support our pastoral leaders for years to come. Additionally, funds we will be dedicated to beginning the restoration of our organ. To learn more about this important initiative, click the video above to see a message from Pastor Nate and Tom Granum, the Interim Chancel Choir Director and Organist.
