October Monthly Minute

October 31, 2022

Saturday, October 1st the Kirk hosted the Pontiac Mission Collaborators Conference at the Strand Theatre in Pontiac. Working breakout sessions were held to address challenges facing the Pontiac community. Thank you to all of the Kirk members who attended and volunteered to help make the conference a success!

Kirk volunteers once again took to the streets on Saturday October 15 for our semi-annual Adopt a Road cleanup of Long Lake Road. Twelve volunteers enjoyed great fellowship while collecting 18 bags of roadside trash.

The totals are in for CROP Walk.....we raised a total of $18,695.1! Thank you to all who donated and walked to help end world hunger. Congrats Team Kirk in the Hills for retaining the "Heart and Sole" Golden Shoe award for another year!

Over 8 years of mission trips from the Kirk to Koinonia Ministries in Belize, our youth helped to build a church, a daycare center, a community kitchen and some homes for our ministry partner.

In 2022, Koinonia Ministries opened a “satellite church” which is 12 hours away from its location, but God knit these two communities together through the live-streaming of the Koinonia worship services.

This photo is from Koinonia Ministries thanking the Kirk for the $5,000 that we sent this year to help them build a modest church in San Pedro, Columbia, a small impoverished community in Belize. A few members of the Koinonia family are currently on mission to serve the residents in San Pedro. They have asked that I share their thanks with the Kirk community and I am certain that they would welcome your prayers for this beautiful community of believers. View their video here.

On Sunday October 9th, we had new members admitted!

No stopping these PC(USA) seniors! Our very own Kirk West was featured in an article in Presbyterians Today! You can click here to read the full article.

October was a busy month for our teens! It was “retreat season” as I like to call it, and because weather cooperated we got to spend a lot of meaningful time in nature together. The high school and confirmation class went up North and stayed at the Devlin family cabin, and the middle school group visited Camp Westminster. Later in the month we celebrated Halloween together! Our middle schoolers embraced the “haunted construction site” theme while passing out candy at Pontiac’s annual Trunk-or-treat event. The high schoolers celebrated with a Halloween party and costume contest! Lots of wonderful fellowship this month.
