Seed Packing Event for Haiti
Feb 2nd : Between Services (10:05 -11:05 am)

On Sunday, February 2nd, Kirk in the Hills is partnering with Seeds to Sustainability and Hope Seeds International to pack 1000 bundles of seed that will be distributed to families in Haiti.  Seed packing will take place between services, from 10:05 am to 10:55 am in the Refectory.

To help us prepare, please SIGN UP HERE. We are looking for at least 50 people to help pack to make sure we meet our 1000 garden goal!  Families and children are welcome! If your children are young, please have them partner with a parent for seed packing.

The work is easy (no heavy lifting, no handling food – everything is in plastic bags) and you will be doing something very special, and very important – helping our Brothers and Sisters in Haiti that are facing dire circumstances. The video below shows a seed packing event at a high school here in Grand Rapids.

Hope Seeds’ mission is “to provide quality garden seed to a hungry world in the name of Christ! No man should go hungry for the lack of seed, and empowering people to grow their own food is a God-pleasing directive since Creation (Genesis 1:29). They believe development and discipleship go hand and hand.  Bringing the Great Commandment and the Great Commission together to share Christ in a tangible and compassionate way to a hurting world. So, their purpose is to meet physical needs to open doors for sharing the greatest Hope for the world, Jesus!”

Seeds for Sustainability is the agricultural arm of Chances for Children.  They provide seed packets to families in Haiti, giving them the ability to grow their own food, and help move church communities from survival mode to stability. In 2023, Kirk in the Hills connected Seeds to Sustainability with longtime Kirk ministry partner, Good Shepherd Orphanage, and now the orphanage is growing more food for their children through this important ministry!  Living with devastating earthquakes, civil unrest and ongoing crisis and adversity, these efforts are vital to the lives of thousands of Haitian families.

Kirk in the Hills has partnered with Chances for Children since 2022.  Chances for Children is a US nonprofit that provides hope to Haiti's children by developing leaders and empowering church communities.  Their work includes orphan care, education, feeding programs, agricultural programs, a medical clinic and mobile medical services, pastoral training, economic programs for women and church renovation - all which demonstrate and share God’s love.

There will also be a Lunch and Learn at 12pm, after the seed packing event, where you can meet the founder of Seeds for Sustainability, Todd Henderson.  For more information, please check out the Lunch and Learn Event information.  We hope you'll stay to learn more. A light lunch will be served.
