Lunch and Learn: Seeds to Sustainability
Feb 2nd: 12 noon -1pm
Come learn more about Seeds for Sustainability, the agricultural arm of Chances for Children, a long-time Outreach and Mission partner of Kirk in the Hills. We will have a short presentation, and a light lunch will be served.
Our guest speaker for the presentation is Todd Henderson, Agricultural Program Manager for Seeds to Sustainability. Todd is a former Bloomfield Hills resident, teacher at Avondale H.S. in Auburn Hills, Assistant Principal at Cass Tech H.S. in Detroit, and currently serves as Principal of Calvin Christian H.S. in Grand Rapids. Todd was also the Co-Owner of Play For Fun Sports, offering sports leagues for the community at Detroit Country Day School and the Auburn Hills Community Center. He led eight mission trips to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Out of those trips, he and his wife Samantha adopted two daughters from Haiti and founded Seeds for Sustainability, the agricultural arm of Chances for Children.
The Lunch and Learn is open to all Kirk members and friends and is free of charge. No registration is required. Looking forward to welcoming you into fellowship to learn more about the important work that is being done in Haiti to help residents feed and sustain their families.
Seeds for Sustainability is the agricultural arm of Chances for Children. They provide seed packets to families in Haiti, giving them the ability to grow their own food, and help move church communities from survival mode to stability. They have a Haitian agronomist who travels throughout the country and assists communities in growing crops. In 2023, Kirk in the Hills connected Seeds to Sustainability with longtime Kirk ministry partner, Good Shepherd Orphanage, and now the orphanage is growing more food for their children through this important ministry! Living with the effects of devastating earthquakes, civil unrest and ongoing crisis and adversity, these efforts are vital to the lives of thousands of Haitian families.
Kirk in the Hills has partnered with Chances for Children since 2022. Chances for Children is a US nonprofit that provides hope to Haiti's children by developing leaders and empowering church communities. Their work includes orphan care, education, feeding programs, agricultural programs, a medical clinic and mobile medical services, pastoral training, economic programs for women and church renovation - all which demonstrate and share God’s love.
We hope you will join us to hear more about what is going on in Haiti, the amazing work that Seeds for Sustainability is doing, and to learn about Fem Lavi Detroit (Farm of Life) that will be held at the Kirk on Saturday, March 8, 2025. You are welcome to register to attend here. And to view the video from the 2024 Fem Lavi held at the Kirk.
